  • Art Major with Digital Arts Concentration (B.A..)

Steps Towards Graduation

  1. Requirements for all Visual Arts Majors
  2. 2000-level Language Requirement
    • Make sure to plan out taking a 2000-level modern language requirement and discuss this with your visual arts advisor.
    • In order to take a 2000-level or higher modern language course, you must have earned credit for 1001 and 1002 level course in the same language such as but not limited to:
      • Spanish, French, or Chinese
    • Evaluate your proficiency level with the language you choose to study, and evaluate how many credit-hours you will need to use in order to complete the 2000-level language course requirement.
    • You may prefer to take the typical course sequence or choose the clep testing options
  3. Continue Completing Your Coursework
    • Continue to pursue the courses in your plan of study for your major, for the year when you entered 91ÁÔÆæ.
  4. Meet with your advisor frequently
    • Select courses that fit your interests and seek mentorship
  5.  Choose electives or a minor that complement your major
    • B.A. programs have an 18-hours elective course block. In this elective block, you may place individual courses that interest you, and/or credits transferred from another 91ÁÔÆæ major which may not fit elsewhere in the plan of study, and/or credits transferred from another institution.
    • If you are pursuing a Studio Art (B.A.), you may take any courses offered at 91ÁÔÆæ as electives, as long as you have completed the courses' prerequisites. This includes art history courses.
    • If you changed your major from another 91ÁÔÆæ major, or if you transferred from another institution, the electives block available in the Studio Art (B.A.) will probably allow you to fit courses that do not fit elsewhere in your plan of study. Talk to your advisor about how to best take advantage of the electives block for this purpose.
    • You may apply to the Visual Arts (B.F.A.)
    • B.A. programs may also use the 18-hours elective course block to pursue a minor. Some minors require a minimum of 15 credit hours while others require a minimum of 18 credit hours.
      • Review Academic Minors at 91ÁÔÆæ to explore options. Please keep in mind that with the exception of the Art History Minor, minors offered by the Department of Visual Arts are not available to majors in the Department of Visual Arts.
    • B.A. programs in the Department of Visual Arts are not required to choose a minor. However, it is recommended that you choose a minor in order to provide coherence and focus to your degree, and to pursue interests beyond your major.
  6. Make the Most of Your Experience
  7.  Complete an internship
    • Art majors with a graphic design or digital arts concentration are required to take the internship course art 4850 internship in visual arts
    • Students in Studio Art (B.A.) are not required to take an internship.
  8. B.A. Group Exhibition
    • You must enroll in ART 4550 on your graduating semester.
      • ART 4550 is a zero-credit online course that meets in second session every fall and spring semester.
        • Note: If you plan to graduate in a summer semester, enroll in the preceding spring semester.
      • This course is intended to prepare you for the B.A. Group Exhibition that serves as a capstone for your program.
