Overview
A dedicated educator and artist, Alex Kraft oversees the ceramics program at 91ÁÔÆæ's Dahlonega Campus. She received her B.F.A. and B.S. Ed. from Northern Arizona University and her M.F.A. from the University of Montana.
Pattern and botanical imagery are often present in her work through organic abstraction of flora, fauna, and landscape. She incorporates mono-printing, inlay, image transfer, and other decorative treatments that further encourage a wide variety of surfaces.
She exhibits her work nationally and internationally including Yingge Ceramics Museum, Taipei; Jingpiao Ceramic Art Exhibition, China; and Taoxichuan Ceramics Museum, Jingdezhen, China. Artist residencies include the Archie Bray Foundation; Clay Studio of Missoula; Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts; Red Lodge Clay Center; Guldagergaard International Ceramic Research Center; Jingdezhen Tioxichuan International Studio; Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts; and Roswell Artist in Residency Program. She has presented workshops and been an invited artist at symposiums including in Hawrah, India; and Icheon, South Korea. Her experience writing and curating exhibitions include large scale multi-faceted projects.
Alex is a recipient of the DoVA Faculty Member of the Year Award and a Presidential Summer Incentive Award. As an Assessment Coordinator for 91ÁÔÆæ DoVA she contributes to curricular revision and development for Visual Arts.
