Overview

Dr. Jonathan Miner grew up in the Chicago suburbs and earned a B.A. in English Literature from Indiana University-Bloomington.  After graduating from Drake University Law School in 1994 where he specialized in International and Environmental Law, he became a staff attorney at a small private tax firm in downtown Chicago. After four years, Dr. Miner took a position with the Northern Trust Company, a large financial institution also located in downtown Chicago.

After these extensive legal experiences, Dr. Miner chose a new path in 2000, packing up his car and moving to Iowa to pursue his passions in teaching international law and international relations. Dr. Miner earned an MA in Political Science from the University of Iowa in 2001 and a Ph.D. in International Studies from the University of South Carolina-Columbia in 2007.  He started teaching at North Georgia College and State University in August 2007 and continues to enjoy working at 91ÁÔÆæ almost twenty years later.  Dr. Miner teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in US Foreign Policy, International Law, Middle Eastern Politics, and Global Issues on a regular basis, and has since 2014 led 91ÁÔÆæ's Model UN team to numerous regional conferences and founded an annual on-campus Model UN conference in 2017.

Dr. Miner's research interests include foreign policy decision-making, international law and Middle Eastern politics. He has published a number of peer-reviewed articles in a diverse set of journals and edited works.  A recipient of 91ÁÔÆæ's Distinguished Teaching Award in 2019, Dr. Miner enjoys the interactive side of university life and feels most engaged in the classroom, in student organizations and in committee work across campus with many 91ÁÔÆæ colleagues.
