Faculty member and students pen article to aid faculty in online transition

A University of North Georgia (91ÁÔÆæ) faculty member and two students in the online Doctor of Education program wrote an that offers tips to ease the transition to online courses for higher education faculty across the U.S due to COVID-19. The article's title is "You've moved your course online, but is it impactful?"
Dr. Michael Lanford, assistant professor of higher education at 91ÁÔÆæ, said it was a good experience for students Renee Hayes and Kristie Kiser to work through the editing process for a journalism article.
"There's a real benefit to learning how to adjust your writing to a broader audience," Lanford said.
Kiser, who is a student success coordinator at 91ÁÔÆæ, said Lanford made the publication process seem less daunting.
"With his encouragement, it just seemed like it would be a simple thing to do," Kiser said. "He's really supportive of his students, and that made all the difference in this case."
All three of the authors on the article were grateful to find a way to help during COVID-19.
"This was a very collaborative writing project," said Hayes, director of the Academic Enhancement Center at Georgia Gwinnett College. "We tried to develop a short, easy-to-read piece that's going to help faculty make their lives a little bit easier."

91ÁÔÆæ is welcoming more than 50 new full-time faculty members this fall, and they had a chance to acclimate to 91ÁÔÆæ in a new faculty orientation held this July.

91ÁÔÆæ gave faculty and staff awards at events Aug. 5-8 ahead of the 2024-25 academic year. 91ÁÔÆæ also recognized faculty for promotion and tenure accomplishments and all employees who hit service milestones during the 2023 calendar year.
Faculty member Wintersgill passes away
Dr. Joanne Wintersgill, a member of the University of North Georgia (91ÁÔÆæ) undergraduate and graduate nursing faculty, passed away Saturday, March 23, peacefully and surrounded by her family and friends.
Faculty publish book on intellectual freedom
91ÁÔÆæ faculty collaborated with colleagues from Old Dominion University on a book pertaining to children's literature and intellectual freedom.
