Nationally Competitive Scholarships

Below are just a few national scholarships available for students studying critical languages, like Chinese, and hoping to study abroad.

The Freeman-ASIA program is designed to support U.S.-based undergraduates with demonstrated financial need who are planning to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia.

This scholarship funds study abroad or internships for students with a Pell grant.

This program offers scholarships for intensive summer language institutes overseas in thirteen critical need foreign languages. The CLS Program provides a seven to ten-week group-based intensive language instruction and extensive cultural enrichment experiences and are held overseas at the beginning, intermediate and advanced levels for U.S. citizen undergraduate, Master’s and Ph.D. students.

These scholarships support to U.S. undergraduates who will pursue the study of languages and cultures currently underrepresented in study abroad and critical to U.S. national security. In exchange for fellowship funding, all Boren Fellows must agree to the NSEP Service Requirement. Students wishing to participate in the capstone year abroad are encouraged to apply for the Boren Scholarship. Boren scholarship deadlines are one year before the planned study abroad program.
