The Georgia Military Service Scholarship (GMSS)
The Georgia Military Service Scholarship is worth about $85,000+ over four years!
The State of Georgia funds 42 full scholarships per year to Georgia high school seniors who agree to enlist in the Georgia Army National Guard, attend the University of North Georgia, participate in the Corps of Cadets, and commission as officers in the Georgia Army National Guard after graduating with their bachelor's degrees.
The scholarship covers almost all of your expenses, including tuition, books, uniforms, fees, meals, and housing.

You Have Two Options
If awarded the GMSS, you will become a part-time officer and serve the citizens of Georgia for eight (8) years as a condition of receiving the scholarship. After the first four years which you must serve in the Georgia Army National Guard, you must serve at least two more years in any state’s Army National Guard and have the option to serve the last two years either in the Army National Guard, or transition into the Inactive Ready Reserve (IRR).
You will not be deployable while at 91ÁÔÆæ in the Corps of Cadets under either of these two options.
Option 1
You enlist in the Georgia Army National Guard for a military occupational specialty (MOS). This option gives you the opportunity to choose from among dozens of jobs such as intelligence, law enforcement, helicopter crew chief, infantryman, medic, and many more. In Army basic training, you will learn how to be a soldier. Then, in advanced individual training, you will gain the abilities required for your desired job. And you will be paid for your training!
What will you get?
- Fully paid college education at a senior military college and one of the top public universities in the south
- National Guard weekend drill pay
- GI Bill®
- Army ROTC contract pay (beginning of your sophomore or junior year when you agree to commission as a lieutenant)
- Bonus: You may also be eligible for an enlistment bonus, monthly GI Bill® kicker, and have the option to enroll in TRICARE Reserve Select health insurance for $47 a month.
Option 2
You enlist as an Officer Candidate. Under this option, you do not choose a military occupational specialty, and you do not go to Army basic training and advanced individual training. You will receive weekend drill pay during all four years at 91ÁÔÆæ, and during your sophomore or junior year, you will have the opportunity to sign an agreement to become an Army National Guard lieutenant. When you sign that agreement, you will receive $420 per month in ROTC stipends.
