Academic Standing Policy

Academic
Warning

91ÁÔÆæ considers a student to be in good academic standing by having a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 after completing 18 or more academic hours in all courses attempted in which a grade of A, B, C, D, F, or WF is submitted.

A student who has 18 hours or less, and a cumulative GPA below 2.0 will be placed on academic warning. Academic warning is considered part of 91ÁÔÆæ’s early alert program and the student remains in good academic standing.

Academic
Probation

A student who has 19 or more GPA hours and does not have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 will be placed on academic probation. A student on academic probation must earn a minimum semester GPA of 2.0 for each subsequent semester, until good academic standing is achieved to remain on continued probation and avoid suspension.

If the student fails to maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 for each subsequent semester while on probation, he/she will be suspended for two consecutive semesters.

Academic
Suspension Appeal

Should there be extenuating circumstances that contributed to the student’s poor academic performance, the student may appeal to the Academic Suspension Appeals Committee prior to the next Appeals committee meeting by means of an on-line Suspension Appeal form.

The committee will review the appeal the week prior to the beginning of the start of classes. The student will be notified of the disposition of the appeal within a week of the committee meeting from AcademicAffairsSuspensionAppeals@ung.edu.

Note: Students receiving financial aid are still required to meet Satisfactory Academic Progress to maintain aid eligibility.
