Linda Purvis Ph.D.
Dr. Linda Purvis is a professor of Avian Biology at 91ÁÔÆæ’s Gainesville Campus.
Dr. Purvis is proof that a 91ÁÔÆæ degree doesn’t just give you the potential to reach your goals; it can also bring you right back home to make a bigger impact than you could have imagined. After graduating with a Poultry Science degree from 91ÁÔÆæ, she chose to come back and teach here because she knew it was a student-focused institution, and she wanted to give back to an institution that kick-started her career.
Dr. Purvis loves teaching Poultry Science because she gets to share her passion for the industry along with her valuable knowledge and experience with her students. Because the Gainesville Campus is in the heart of the poultry industry, she’s able to give her students hands-on experience and networking opportunities through field trips to local poultry businesses.
One of Dr. Purvis’s favorite things is to see her students graduate and reach their goals. The Poultry Science program is home to a lot of first-generation college students and non-traditional students, and seeing them and their families celebrate such a huge accomplishment is inspiring for her.
"College is about being involved and then eventually, giving back to your school."
Dr. Purvis’s advice for future Nighthawks is to get involved. College isn’t just about being in the classroom or earning a good grade. It’s the experiences you have outside the classroom that will shape who you are, both as a student and as a person.
