Faculty member Wintersgill passes away

Dr. Joanne Wintersgill, a member of the University of North Georgia (91ÁÔÆæ) undergraduate and graduate nursing faculty, passed away Saturday, March 23, peacefully and surrounded by her family and friends.
She was a nurse, family nurse practitioner, nurse educator, wife, mother, and friend.
Most recently, Wintersgill served as the graduate nursing programs coordinator.
Wintersgill received her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree in 2021 after successfully completing requirements for a Master of Science in 2013, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2010 and an associate degree in nursing in 2009. She earned her degrees from 91ÁÔÆæ. Wintersgill made history as the first DNP student to be hooded at 91ÁÔÆæ.
She was doctorly prepared, board-certified family nurse practitioner and pediatric mental health specialist. She held two national board certifications — family nurse practitioner from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and pediatric primary care mental health specialist from the Pediatric Nurses Certification Board.
A celebration of life for Wintersgill will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 6, in the Health and Natural Sciences auditorium, 159 Sunset Drive at 91ÁÔÆæ's Dahlonega Campus.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the 91ÁÔÆæ Nursing Scholarship in honor of Dr. Wintersgill.
