On Oct. 13, No One Alone (NOA) hosted its third annual fundraising event, North Georgia's Got Talent, at the Dawson County Performing Arts Center. Dr. David Broad, professor of sociology at the University of North Georgia (91ÁÔÆæ), couldn't pass up the opportunity to participate.

"The experience reminds me that when you do something out of appreciation for your community, good things happen," he said.

Broad performed a rendition of "What a Wonderful World" in the style of Louis Armstrong and was awarded the People's Choice Award.

NOA is a nonprofit domestic violence shelter that serves people in need in Lumpkin and Dawson counties.

"I know that the work of NOA is vital to our community," he said. "I'm convinced they have saved lives and provided survivors of domestic violence the help they need at a challenging time in their lives.  So doing something to support NOA was an easy decision."

Through his participation, Broad wants to inspire others to give back to their community.

"Give of yourself and you will be gifted back three-fold," he said. "You will have the satisfaction of giving, of receiving and most of all, of friendship."
