Dr. George K. Danns, professor of sociology at the University of North Georgia (91ÁÔÆæ), was selected to chair the International Editorial Board of the University of Guyana Press (UGP) - a panel of researchers and scholars with expertise in the social sciences, humanities and the environment from Guyana and the Caribbean region.

The University of Guyana and Ian Randle Publishers of Jamaica signed a cohort agreement to establish the UGP as a way for faculty and students conducting research to publish their works as well as building scholarship at the country's only university.

"The UGP is a major institutional advancement and a significant component of the university's renaissance of development. It is an affirmation and celebration of scholarship and an accessible conduit for the publication of quality research from its faculty, scholars from the diaspora, scientists, and creative others," Danns said.

Danns has more than 20 publications in areas such as race and ethnic minorities, community development, political leadership, military, police and national security, social movements, environmental and natural disasters, homicide, youth, women, and child labor. He holds a bachelor's degree in social sciences from the University of Guyana, and a master's degree and a Ph.D. in sociology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
