91ÁÔÆæ

Concerto/Aria Competition

Every year, 91ÁÔÆæ students are invited to compete for the opportunity to perform as a soloist with one of our major instrumental ensembles (Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Sinfonietta, or Jazz Band). The competition takes place in early November, and the winning performer is scheduled for a concert in the spring semester. The three judges are hired from outside of 91ÁÔÆæ to ensure impartiality.

Eligibility

  • All current 91ÁÔÆæ students (excepting those who won the competition in the previous year) are eligible to compete. Competitors are still eligible if they expect to graduate before the concert.
  • A student may compete in the same year on two unrelated instruments (e.g. trumpet and voice), but not on two related instruments (e.g. oboe and English horn).

Guidelines

  • Competitors may only perform literature that has been approved by the director of the ensemble with whom they hope to appear. The director must sign the application to indicate consent.
  • Competitors must have the permission of their applied instructor. The instructor must sign the application to indicate consent.
