Peer Health Education

The Peer Health Educators (PHEs) are a student wellness group on the Dahlonega and Gainesville campuses who are led by the Department of Campus Recreation and Wellness.

Peer Health Educators provide health information, promote discussion and reflection, and educate by engaging fellow students. Throughout the year, they work with campus and community partners to promote healthy lifestyle choices through health, wellness, and fitness programming and campus outreach.

Become a Peer Health Educator

Becoming a Peer Health Educator provides you with opportunities to: 
  • Earn a Certified Peer Educator Certification. 
  • Gain knowledge on current health and wellness topics relevant to college students. 
  • Develop skills in leadership, critical thinking, public speaking, and effective communication. 
  • Lead and develop programs. 
  • Expand social networks and develop positive working relationships. 
  • Build your resume. 

Expectations and Commitments

  •  
  • Serve as a volunteer Peer Health Educator for one academic year. 
  • Attend all meetings and training as scheduled. 
  • Dedicate a minimum of eight hours per semester to programming and activities. 
  • Exhibit a passion for health and wellness with a willingness to serve as a role model for other students. 
  • Be able to work independently and with a team. 

Request a Presentation

We offer a variety of health-related presentations, outreach programs and activities tailored to meet your group's needs. All programs are facilitated by certified peer health educators or professional wellness staff.

  • We require a minimum of two weeks' notice. 
  • Our programs last approximately one hour in length and must start and finish between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. 
  • We will confirm the program by email once we have the secured staff/volunteers/partners needed. 
  • You must guarantee a minimum of five participants. 
  • You are responsible for providing room accommodations (including PowerPoint capabilities).
