7.3 Site Folder Structure
91ÁÔÆæ has such a wide variety of web sites it is impossible to come up with a standard site folder structure. However, there are certain folders which can exist across many sites, described below:
- dev: created to give editors a location to work on pages hidden from the public - all page development should occur here, as these pages are also hidden from search engines
- faculty-staff-bio: should hold all profile pages within a unit
- _blocks: blocks of content used to ‘build’ web pages are stored here
- _links: created external links are stored here
- _NOTES: provides a location to leave notes about any complexities of a site for future reference by others
- _uploads: items uploaded are stored here in the appropriate sub-folder
- files – PDFs preferable, but also word, excel, etc. 20 MB file
- images - JPG or PNG - 1 MB file size limit
When to create a folder?
- If there are three or more pages pertaining to a subject, create a folder.
