Tim Fitzgerald, instructor of clarinet at the University of North Georgia (91ÁÔÆæ), will perform a lecture recital alongside Chris Mothersole, a University of West Georgia faculty member, at the 2021 International Clarinet Association's (ICA) ClarinetFest Conference.

The pair's performance is available online at 4 p.m. July 9 for anyone who registers for the free conference via the .

The 25-minute lecture recital will address how clarinet and guitar effect pedals create a unique sound.

"I wanted to present something that would empower people to try out electronics with clarinet," Fitzgerald said.

Fitzgerald and Mothersole make up the clarinet duo CLX, which according to its Instagram page, "is an homage to rock 'n' roll, drawing inspiration from groups including Aerosmith and Muse by combining clarinet with guitar effect pedals."

Fitzgerald said they spent hours in guitar shops to ensure no stone was left unturned in figuring out how to use guitar effects pedals with the clarinet.

"We wanted to do all the head-scratching to help others get their plane off the ground quicker," he said.
