University of North Georgia (91ÁÔÆæ) softball head coach earned his 900th coaching victory in a 12-1 road win against Newberry College on March 31.

He has won more than 79% of his games as 91ÁÔÆæ's head coach.

With a 22-4 record through April 14, Davenport's team has spent three weeks ranked No. 1 in the country this season.

"I don't think when we set out on this journey 21 seasons ago we had any aspirations of reaching a certain milestone," Davenport said. "But reaching 900 wins in 21 seasons will always be extra special to me and this team because just over a year ago none of us were certain when we would get to coach and play the game of softball again."

Davenport took over as 91ÁÔÆæ softball head coach in 2001 and has averaged more than 45 wins per full season, including a 2015 NCAA Division II national championship and a school-record 62 wins in 2018. His team was 23-4 in the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season to finish the year ranked No. 3 nationally.

"I am extremely proud and humbled to have been able to lead this program for the past 21 years," Davenport said. "But our sustained success is solely due to the players who have played in our program and chosen to wear the North Georgia uniform."
