One opportunity to share about the University of North Georgia's (91ÁÔÆæ) Blue Ridge Scholars program led to another for assistant professors Dr. Andrew Pearl and Dr. Nathan Price.

Pearl, an assistant professor of education and also director of engagement at 91ÁÔÆæ, and Price, assistant professor of political science and international affairs, shared at an Appalachian Higher Education Network (AHEN) meeting this summer how the program ensures freshmen on the Blue Ridge Campus have the tools necessary to be successful in college. Betty Hale, a senior fellow at the Institute for Educational Leadership, then asked the pair to write a for her organization's website.

The post by Pearl and Price provides details about how Blue Ridge Scholars works and the multiple outlets for community service that the students take part in such as: Fannin County Family Connection, helping meet community needs; Teen Maze, which helps high school students consider consequences of their choices; a little free library; and reading buddy opportunities.

Pearl and Price were part of a larger group that presented at the AHEN meeting. Also in that group were Blue Ridge Campus academic success coach Lisa Terrene, student Miguel Vila, and Fannin County Family Connection Director Sherry Morris.

"We were eager to share what we are doing on the Blue Ridge Campus with our colleagues throughout the region," Price said. "And we were humbled by the warm reception our presentation received."
