Dr. Lori Wilson is new 91ÁÔÆæ chemistry department head

Dr. Lori Wilson was appointed as the new head of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of North Georgia (91ÁÔÆæ) on Aug. 1.
Wilson comes from Eastern Kentucky University (EKU), where she had been director of the forensic science program since 2014. She chaired EKU's chemistry department from 2009-2016.
"I was impressed with the quality of the chemistry faculty and their dedication to developing the 'whole' student with a well-designed teaching and research program," Wilson said. "The graduates of 91ÁÔÆæ chemistry are well-prepared to succeed in industry, government or academia."
Wilson previously was an associate professor at East Tennessee State University and adjunct faculty at its Quillen College of Medicine.
She also worked as a National Research Council Associate on the crystallization of proteins at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, from 1990-1992.
Wilson earned her doctorate in analytical chemistry with a focus in physical and biochemistry from Georgia Tech. Wilson has a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Mercer University.
Wilson is replacing Dr. John Leyba, who was promoted to associate dean of the College of Science and Mathematics.

Faculty, staff earn awards
91ÁÔÆæ gave faculty and staff awards at events Aug. 5-8 ahead of the 2024-25 academic year. 91ÁÔÆæ also recognized faculty for promotion and tenure accomplishments and all employees who hit service milestones during the 2023 calendar year.
Students take part in Pathway to Med School
Two students participated in the four-week Pathway to Med School program through the Foothills Area Health Education Center this summer.
