91ÁÔÆæ residence life director received Outstanding Professional Award

Despite earning a political science degree, Treva Smith realized law school was not for her.
The decision proved fortuitous. Smith enrolled in graduate school and earned a Masters of Public Administration at the University of North Georgia (91ÁÔÆæ). Through those connections, Smith applied for a housing coordinator position and got the job.
"I really found my calling," said Smith, who has served at the director of residence life at 91ÁÔÆæ since 2013.
Alyson Paul, associate vice president of student affairs and the dean of students, could not agree more. She nominated Smith for the Outstanding Professional Award through the (GHO), which bestowed Smith with the recognition.

The award recognizes Smith's contribution to housing or residence life though her ability to positively impact the professional and personal development of students and staff; her significant contributions to 91ÁÔÆæ demonstrated by research, innovative programs or services, or a related activity which is above and beyond their normal position expectations; and her service to the profession through service at the state levels.
"It was a very nice surprise," Smith said. "It was nice to know that the folks I work with were able to recognize me in that way. It was humbling."
Residents ready for traditional move-in
91ÁÔÆæ Residence Life staff and volunteers are poised to welcome students to campus on move-in days with helping hands and in-person activities.

The Women of 91ÁÔÆæ, a shared-interest group of the university's alumni association, selected 10 female student leaders out of 55 nominations to receive the Female Student Leadership Award this year.
Students begin moving back on campus with staggered approach
This week continues the staggered move-in of students on the University of North Georgia's (91ÁÔÆæ) Dahlonega Campus. Cadets began a phased move-in Aug. 1 to limit the number of cadets arriving each day. Fewer than 105 cadets moved in per day, and a medical screening was the first stop on campus for each. Beginning Aug. 12, other residential students will move in across a four-day window, with fewer than 20 students moving into any particular residence hall at a time.
Summer and fall orientation transition from in-person to online sessions
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused the University of North Georgia to alter its orientation schedule and transition components of it online. Instead of initially meeting students face-to-face on campus, 36 91ÁÔÆæ orientation leaders will connect with students in the digital world.
