Based on his research, Dr. Jameson Brewer, assistant professor of social foundations in the College of Education at University of North Georgia (91ÁÔÆæ), was featured as an expert in .
In the article, Brewer answered two specific questions: Should college be tuition free? How else can we work to make college more affordable?
In his answer, Brewer explained from the philosophical standpoint if society deems that kindergarten through 12th grade should be free, funding a student's college education makes financial sense for at least one reason.
"We know that the country and society benefits when citizens are more educated, that’s why we provide free K-12 education and why we should continue that commitment into college," Brewer said.
His comments in the WalletHub article are not the first time Brewer has shared his expertise about education policy and school choice.
Brewer joined Christopher Lubienski of Indiana University to write an article titled "Does homeschooling improve educational opportunities?" It was published by the Scholars Strategy Network in November 2017.
Brewer received his Ph.D. in educational policy studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he served as the O’Leary Fellow at the Forum on the Future of Public Education. He received a M.S. in social foundations of education from Georgia State University and a B.S.Ed. in secondary education of history. Brewer taught high school history in the Atlanta Public Schools and middle grades social studies in Gwinnett County Public Schools. He has been at 91ÁÔÆæ since January 2017.
