Hugh Scott, lecturer of management for the Mike Cottrell College of Business at the University of North Georgia (91ΑΤΖζ), presented at the Georgia Campus Sustainability Network (GCSN) Annual Conference on Oct. 27 at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia.

The is an organization geared towards aiding higher education campuses across the state in meeting their sustainability goals.

Scott submitted a proposal with DeAnn Hargis, director of supply chain at Convergent, and Scott Sadler, president and chief investment officer of Boardwalk Capital Management. Their presentation was titled β€œLeveraging Professional Networks to Advance Sustainability Learning.”

Sustainability is an increasingly popular topic in the world today and is β€œan especially interesting topic in business,” he said.

Scott said that many in the 91ΑΤΖζ community see a need to engage students as well as faculty in this discussion. In addition to the creation of a new 91ΑΤΖζ Faculty/Staff Sustainability Committee, a new student club is also being formed.

The Sustainability Club of North Georgia is new to 91ΑΤΖζ’s Dahlonega Campus, launching in the fall of 2017. The club works directly with the , which aims to bring together "businesses and organizations across the Southeast to promote the growth, innovation and success of sustainability." Students who join will learn more about sustainability, Scott said, and help 91ΑΤΖζ grow in its sustainability efforts and make more connections in the community.

Hopefully, the club will help "get students to look at sustainability in a rigorous way," Scott said.
