Andrew Pearl, director of academic engagement at the University of North Georgia (91ÁÔÆæ), is co-author of the paper "Beyond Assessment: Conducting Theoretically-Grounded Research on Service-Learning in Gerontology Courses," which recently received the David A. Peterson Award for best paper in the Journal Gerontology & Geriatrics Education, volume 37.
Selected by the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE), the paper focuses on the use of service-learning as a teaching tool and high-impact educational practice, specifically in higher education gerontology courses.
"The main purpose of the paper is to encourage instructors and researchers to go the extra mile in research so as to better understand the impacts of service-learning as well as several suggestions for a theory-driven scholarly agenda," Pearl said.
Pearl, along with the paper’s leading author, Dr. Tina M. Kruger, chair and associate professor of applied health sciences at Indiana State University, will be recognized for their award at the AGHE annual Business Meeting and Educational Leadership Conference, March 9-12.
