Am I eligible to retire?

There are certain conditions that you must meet to be eligible for retirement from the USG. Check to see when you will qualify.

How Do I Start the Process?

TRS

If you plan to retire within the next two years, use the online calculator to get an idea of your estimated benefits, then speak with one of the TRS retirement counselors.

It is encouraged that you start the process six (6) months prior to your planned retirement date. You can apply online to expedite the process.

How Can I Estimate My Benefits?

Teacher Retirement System (TRS)

Calculate Your Unused Sick Leave

First, do you have any unused sick leave? You can get credit toward your service for unused sick leave. TRS provides a conversion chart to help you determine how much credit you may get.

Choose a Retirement Plan Option

TRS has two plans with options. Which you choose will determine your monthly benefit.

Calculate an Estimate of Your Benefit

With TRS, your retirement benefit is calculated by using the percentage of salary formula. Depending on how close you are to retirement, you can:

  • Use a pension calculator on the TRS site (more than 5 years until your retirement)
  • Use the benefit estimator via your online TRS account (within 5 years of retirement)

Optional Retirement Plan (ORP)

If you've chosen the optional retirement plan, USG has a guide for ORP and you can also contact the ORP vendors.
