After receiving 91ÁÔÆæ's Distinguished Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Award, Muñoz was chosen to represent 91ÁÔÆæ for the Regents' Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Award.
"It is very rewarding and validating to be given both of these awards," Muñoz said. "I just want to acknowledge the great co-authors I have worked with over the years. They have not only contributed to the research projects/publications but also have inspired me with new ideas to bring to the classroom. I also want to thank all of my students for being patient with me as I tried out a variety of teaching innovations."
The USG-level Regents' Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Award recognizes faculty who are engaged in the systematic examination of issues related to student learning and instructional conditions that promote learning, building on previous scholarship. To demonstrate her accomplishments, Muñoz submitted a nomination portfolio that included a CV, letters of recommendation from colleagues, and a statement regarding her teaching philosophy and impact.
"I have always been interested in teaching–related research throughout my career," Muñoz said. "When I applied, I had a number of teaching-related peer–reviewed publications and teaching–related service experiences."
In her teaching philosophy, Muñoz stated: "My overall goal in teaching is to facilitate interest in the course content that goes beyond the classroom. I am committed to real-world application of classroom concepts. Class material will be perceived as relevant and interesting to students if it is accompanied by examples taken from their personal experiences or areas of interest."
"I want to provide students with hands-on experiences that equip them with marketable skills. Ultimately, I want them excited about their field and gainfully employed after graduation," she said.
Muñoz received her master's degree and doctorate from Auburn University. Her research and teaching revolves around social media and marketing. Her co-authored book, #Share: How to Mobilize Social Word of Mouth (2017), is used to teach social media with an emphasis on ethics.
"I love the intersection of psychology, sociology, and business," Muñoz said. "Specifically, how understanding consumers and groups can facilitate the creation of better products and stronger communications."
