What kinds of things did you do while in college to prepare you for your professional life after college, or to make yourself more marketable?
I participated in extracurricular activities like Running Club, I took classes that were both challenging and interesting, and I made good grades. Then, when I was ready to start looking for a job, I visited Career Services for advice, and I developed a personal website. The staff at Career Services were very helpful. They helped me to greatly improve my resume and prepare for the on-campus career fair and interviews.
How did you hear about (or find) your current position?
I initially heard about my current position through Career Services. From there, I met with a director from Equifax at a career fair. I then attended on-campus interviews and was invited to an on-site interview at Equifax which led to me attaining my current position.
What advice would you like to give to current students to help prepare them for careers and/or the job search after college?
My advice is to always have a plan for your future, and never forget your ultimate goals. It's much easier to stay motivated if you remember what you're working towards. Also, try to participate in some extracurricular activities, and remember that the projects you work on in school or at work are what will help you sell yourself to employers. If you can give an interviewer specific examples of how you solved a problem or lead a team to success, it will greatly improve your chances of getting the job. So, take pride in your work, and keep track of any projects that could be relevant to your field. Finally, go to Career Services for advice about your resume, interviews, and anything else you need help with.
